These photos were rescued from the dumpster, part of the estate of an African-American female photographer named
Jessie Gordon, who went to the New York Institute of Photography at 10 West 33rd
Street, NYC in 1949.
Many of the women in the photos were professional
models. Some were students. I know these photos and others
meant a lot to Jessie. I don't know if she ever made it as a
professional photographer but there were many magazines in the apartment
which she lived such as: Life, Vanity Fair, and newspaper clippings from
the Kennedy era. I do know she loved President
Kennedy.
I've scanned these for this site because all the
models are wearing jewelry. Remember the year was 1949.
